Tips for Travel to Montpellier, South of France

Montpellier is easy to reach - enjoy French language immersion stays at our French school in Montpellier. Have fun and learn French in France!

By plane

The International Airport Montpellier Méditerranée is located just a few miles from the city center. A shuttle-bus services operates regularly between the airport and the city centre. There are also taxis available (travel time around 15 minutes).

There are some direct connections from European cities (see underneath). However, flights from overseas and smaller European cities go via the two Paris airports Charles de Gaulle or Orly. Montpellier is connected by around 16 direct daily flights from both Paris airports. Flying time is just above 1 hour. Montpellier is also connected to a number of European cities via Lyon.  Stopovers in Lyon are usually very short.

You might find even more affordable options by flying with low costs Airlines to one of the airports located close to Montpellier. They fly regularly to Carcassonne Airport, Marseille Airport, Béziers AirportToulouse Airport and Lyon Airport. From these cities Montpellier can be reached easily by train in 1 to 2 hours.

By train

Montpellier is easy to be reached by train. The main station Montpellier Saint-Roch is located right in the centre of Montpellier. From there it is only about 5 minutes’ walk to our French language school.

Montpellier is located on one of the most impotant  TGV (High speed train) lines in France, going from Paris to Madrid via Lyon, Montpellier and Barcelona. Montpellier has excellent connections to all major cities in France and Europe. Travel time between Paris (Gare de Lyon) and Montpellier is around 3 hours 15 minutes. Each day several trains also leave from the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris to Montpellier. Travel time is 3 hours and 45 minutes. This avoids you going into Paris to catch the TGV train. 

Information on train timetables and reservations under Single journeys are as low as € 25 if you book well in advance. The earlier you book the cheaper it will be.

Montpellier is well connected to many European cities by bus.
