You will be in good company with other international students from the French school and supervised by guides who are used to canoeing, you will have a nice ride on the peaceful waters of the Lez; the river crossing Montpellier. This excursion will make you feel as though you are out in the countryside without even leaving the city centre. Enjoy a relaxing time as you get to practice your French.
The “Eaux Vives” (White water) association is based in the neoclassical Antigone, created by the architect Ricardo Bofill. You can get there in just 15 minutes by tram from our school which is in the city centre. An experienced team will welcome you and explain the various safety procedures. They will then give you the equipment you will need in the canoe. However, make sure you have what you need for a shower and change of clothes at the end of the visit, because it is not uncommon that this particular part of the language immersion does in fact turn into real immersion right in the water!
Don’t miss this 1 hour 20-minute ride in a Canoe-Kayak, during which you will get to meet some nice people and enjoy a bit of fresh air in the Southern French sun!
No need to be particularly sporty to take part in this activity, anyone who knows how to swim is welcome. Do not deprive yourself of the chance to have fun on a language stay in France that is original and different. You will get to learn about how important the river Lez has been in the development of the city of Montpellier, both in historic and contemporary terms. It is for example on the banks of this river that the famous “FISE’ is organized each year, (international festival of extreme sports); this event is famous all over the world!
