Visits to Montpellier: The Old and New Town

On your first day with us at our French language school in the South of France, we will take you on a cultural sightseeing tour of Montpellier.

You will soon see that Montpellier is a city that has an awful lot to offer. By choosing to come and study French with us, you get the chance to discover French culture and the many specialities rom the South of France. Montpellier is a human-sized city, which attracts and seduces both foreign tourists and French tourists who have since come to settle here. You will just love the architecture, climate, gastronomy and the infinite variety of landscapes and nearby sites.

Stroll down the narrow streets right in the historic heart of the old city of Montpellier and admire the old mansions, parks and squares. You will be accompanied by a teacher and other international students from our EasyFrench language school. Practice your French sitting quietly on one of the many sunny terraces of the city centre that are just there waiting for you; most even offer special rates for students.

Montpellier is an excellent student city, it hosts many cultural activities, festivals, markets, exhibitions all year round… There is always something good going on! It’s the perfect place for a language course learning French in France!

From one week to the next, free tours are organized by our French language school to show you the different parts of the city of Montpellier. Alternating between historic and modern city, with contemporary architecture. This means that early on in your French language immersion program, you will find your bearings so that you will be able to find your way around the city and choose where to go out… you will feel “at home” in no time at all!

On the one hand, the Old Town offers a medieval maze of narrow streets, occasionally open onto the long Haussmann avenues. Montpellier is very often compared to Paris with its ‘Arc de Triomphe’, its opera or its chic buildings with rounded roofs…

On the other hand, fans of modern architecture will be delighted by the Antigone district, the wide spaces and white stones built in the 80s by the architect Ricardo Bofill, but also by the archives built by Zaha Hadid, the town built by Jean Nouvel or more recently the “Cloud” by Philippe Starck.

Montpellier is one of the most attractive cities in the South of France, it is both charming and surprising, a pure delight for those who get to discover its many strengths and dynamism. Do not miss the cultural tours that we organize during your French language stay in France.
